Yesterday, I went shopping…well, it was more like window shopping…since all my work pants are waaaaaay too big. I was going to shop online, but since I don’t know what my size is since losing 25 lbs, I had to pop in a store to work that part out.

So, here I am, walking into Torrid (love, love LOVE that store) and I start scoping out the slacks. I grab 3 pairs, in 2 different styles (one pair like cropped leggings and the other just regular cropped slacks) in 3 different sizes – size 1 (the equivalent to a 16), a size 16 and a size 18. Keep in mind, I have some size 16 clothing currently that’s still a little tight but you can never be sure with fit from different stores.

I head into the fitting room, a little reluctantly I might add and try on the dressy leggings. They’re a little snug going on but they’re designed to be that way since they’re slimming and have a “compression” belt. Not bad…But then I tried on the cropped slacks. I started with the 16.

And they fit.

OMG, I’m a size 16!

I’ve got $150 to spend on some new pants. Time to shop!

Breakfast Routine

A while ago, I wrote about how breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And I still strongly believe that. If I don’t eat breakfast, I’m done. Nothing gets done. I can’t function. So, this week, I’m re-evaluating my relationship with food and I’m making some changes, including meal planning, eating more protein heavy foods and committing to staying within a specific range of calories. It’s been a rough few weeks and I feel myself falling apart as a result. Hence the reevaluation.

Anyway, to my point – I’m trying a different breakfast routine this week. Because of my work schedule, it’s not feasible to cook a full blown breakfast before my commute to work so I have to find convenient alternatives that can either be eaten at my desk at work or on the drive in the work. So, for the last couple weeks, I’ve been eating a banana and enjoying a nutlabel-2238574Special K Red Berries ProKelloggsSpecialKProteinBreakfastShakeRedBerries_1135315tein Shake. I was apprehensive about the shake at first, but have you ever had Nestle Strawberry milk? It tastes EXACTLY like that. YUM! With 180 calories and 10g of protein, I don’t think you can really go wrong here. The problem, however, was that it didn’t fill me and left me hungry again within 30 minutes or so.  So, I started pairing it with two bananas. That actually made a big difference in my level of hunger.but from a calorie perspective it was crazy high in calories and sugar. Plus, bananas get so smushy and bruised so easily that they weren’t too fun to eat sometimes.

So, fast forward to today. I’ve seen these Emerald Breakfast On The Go Yogurt Bites at the grocery store before but never tried them because I couldn’t comprehend how one little package of granola covered in yogurt could be considered breakfast. Maybe it’s my southern living. Breakfast is biscuits, eggs, bacon and hash browns, not yogurt dipped granola.

But I gave in and tried it. And they were actually really good! They were sweet and crunchy and the bites of dried fruit made it that much better. They reminded me of a version of Jordan Almonds (and I love Jordan Almonds). I also thought they would be pretty small but I was pleasantly surprised by the size of them! The sugar count is still pretty high but I feel a lot more satisfied (from a hunger perspective) with these combined with the Special K shake and one banana.

Overall, I’m making changes and finding what works for me. Remember, what works for me may not necessarily work for you so be sure to find your fit.

Next time, I’ll tell you about lunch. That can be a pretty big pain point for me.

As of last week, I had completed one full week of C210K. And it was great! I thought it was going to be super difficult but it was a whole lot easier than I expected.

To put it into context, it’s been about 2 and a half years since I went running and I’ve tinkered with the idea of running again since but I wasn’t ever really motivated. Well, a good friend of mine started running and she mentioned that she wants to visit us in Arizona and do a run while she’s out here. So, in September, I’ve decided to do a 10K. As for which race I’m going to do, I’m not sure. There are a few different 10K races in September so I’ve still got to make a decision.

There are a bunch of different C210K apps out there and some of them are more realistic (in my opinion) than others. The one that’s my favorite is by ZenLabs. Some of the features of the app are:Screen Shot 2015-02-16 at 7.47.30 PM

– It’s only 3 times/week
– You can listen to your own favorite music and playlist while you train
– Easy to use, intuitive interface
– Convenient audio coach and alerts
– Integrated with Facebook and Twitter communities
– The app works while your device is locked

I love the fact that it’s only 3 times a week because God knows, I don’t have time or energy to run more times a week than that. (I was supposed to go running after work today but when I ended up staying at work 2 hours longer than expected, that plan was pretty much squashed). I’m going to try to go run tomorrow, provided I don’t have another super long day at work. At this rate, I may end up doing week 1 all over again. Ugh.

Anyway, the goal is to be ready to run a 10K by mid September (and to run faster than a 14 minute mile, cuz that’s just atrocious.

Anyone gonna train with me??

Stretch Marks? Tired Eyes? No problem!

I’ve always had stretch marks. In my early teens, I was a pudgy thing and stretch marks made their way up and down my thighs and hips. Around 16, I lost a ton of weight and my stretch marks pretty much disappeared. But, fast forward to adulthood and you’ll see my weight go up and down repeatedly over the years. And go forward just a smidge more to 2012 and pregnancy. I gained 55 lbs during pregnancy and my stretch marks were at their worst post partum. What else got worst post partum? The bags under my eyes. I NEVER had bags under my eyes before. But when you have a kid who will fight sleep until 11pm and wake up with the sun almost every day, you’ll get bags under your eyes too.

Don’t get me wrong. I love me. And I love what my tiger strips represent. The nine months of pregnancy. The growth and development of this amazing child inside of me. The 19 hours of labor I went through. And the last 18 months of watching this kid grow. But, having these stretch marks makes me a bit self conscious of my body (combined with the massive scar I have running from my belly button to bikini line from a spinal fusion I had in 2010). My stomach is not cute.

I tried cocoa butter but didn’t even see an inkling of a change in my scar and stretch marks. But then I got my hands on Body Merry Stretch Mark cream.

I was skeptical at first but I figured it couldn’t hurt to try it out. So I did. Every day, once a day after my shower. A giant dollop across my stomachs and hips.

The first thing that hit me about the product was the smell. Initially, the smell of cocoa butter was a bit overwhelming but once it was rubbed in, it wasn’t noticeable at all. It has a great consistency, too – super thick, but not unmanageable. I’ve used it for about 2 weeks now and I’ve seen a noticeable difference in my scar and stretch marks. Like a doofus, I forgot to take a picture but trust me when I say that my stomach and hips were covered in stripes but now, the ones on my stomach are barely visible. My surgical scar has faded quite a bit too but I never expect it to go away (it was a bad cut).The stretch marks on my sides have also faded considerably.

Why is this working so well? Check out the ingredients:
Organic Cocoa Butter, Shea Butter, Vitamins E + C + B3 + B5, Sunflower Seed Oil, Plant Stem Cells, Organic Hemp Seed Oil, Organic Jojoba Oil, Evening Primrose Oil, Raspberry Seed Oil, Avocado Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Organic Gotu Kala, Algae Extract and Japanese Green Tea Leaf Extract.

A natural solution with ingredients I can pronounce. Do I expect the stretch marks to go away completely? No. Am I going to continue using it? Yes. Let’s see how much more I can make my stripes fade.

Considering how good the stretch mark cream was for me, I had high hopes for the eye cream and it didn’t disappoint.

Again – the ingredients: According to the Amazon page, some of the ingredients are Peptide Complex + Amino Acid Emulsification + Antioxidants + Hyaluronic Acid + Retinol + Vitamin C (2 types!) + Vitamin E + Vitamin B5 + Aloe + Rose Hip Oil + Jojoba Oil + Coconut Oil + Beeswax + Cranberry + Licorice + Sunflower Oil + Borage Oil + Flaxseed Oil + Evening Primrose Oil + Lavender + Calendula + Chamomile + Witch Hazel + Glycolic Acid + MSM + Cocoa Butter + Cucumber + Green Tea + Bearberry + Blueberry + Oregon Grape + Eyebright + Coenzyme Q10 + Lemon + Lemongrass + Apple + Sugarcane + Grapeseed Oil + Macadamia Nut Oil + Palm Oil + Tamanu Oil + Raspberry Seed Oil + Avocado Oil.

I loved this eye cream. It was light and only a tiny amount was needed. I used it daily, just like the stretch mark cream, every morning. And darn if I didn’t see a difference super fast! I’ve never done anything for the bags under my eyes, because I didn’t think anything could be done other than getting a bit more sleep. Boy, was I wrong. The improvement is clear. Thankfully I remembered to take a before and after pic. Both pics were taken first thing in the morning. The before picture was about 2 weeks ago and the after picture was this very morning. The lighting is different in the pix, but tell me that you don’t see a difference. (Before is on the left and after on the right). Processed with Moldiv

I’m sold. I’m definitely going to continue using this product.

Life happens

MAN! I’ve been busy! Between vacation and work, I’ve not had time to blog. I’m so sorry I’ve neglected you!

I’m hoping to get back into my regular routine next week. A couple quick updates:

– My weight has been consistent for the last 3 weeks, sitting at around 224. Meh;

– I didn’t track any food over vacation but I’m back on plan this week;

– I’m adjusting the focus of my blog to be less “Mission Slimpossible” and more “Mission HealthPossible” which is better overall as it’ll focus on improving health, mind and body but doesn’t have nearly as smooth of a ring as SlimPossible.

– I started C210K yesterday. I was scared but it was awesome!

I promise to be back this weekend with regular posts again! 🙂

Jammy Jams weren’t that Jammy

My one year old LOVES music, so when I saw this Jammy Jams album that featured lullaby renditions of hip hop, I knew I had to have this for him. (But really, I was just getting it for myself…I love corny stuff like this).

So, I download the album and I’m looking over the track list:

Screen Shot 2015-01-24 at 1.11.36 AM

1. Hey Ya (Lullaby Rendition of Outkast)
2. California Love (Lullaby Rendition of 2Pac)
3. The Real Slim Shady (Lullaby Rendition of Eminem)
4. Gangsta’s Paradise (Lullaby Rendition of Coolio)
5. Girls (Lullaby Rendition of Beastie Boys)
6. Rock Box (Lullaby Rendition of Run-D.M.C.)
7. Summertime (Lullaby Rendition of DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince)
8. Regulate (Lullaby Rendition of Warren G)
9. Big Pimpin (Lullaby Rendition of Jay-Z)
10. Nuthin’ But A “G” Thang (Lullaby Rendition of Dr. Dre)

And I’m like waaaaaaaa? This is gonna be great! And I go straight to Hey Ya…and there are no words. Only audio. So, I moved on to California Love, thinking the lack of lyrics was a track thing. Nope. No words. Now, don’t get me wrong. I know they’re lullaby renditions and that this is made for kids. But lullabies can have words, can’t they? Itsy Bitsy Spider, Rock-a-Bye Baby, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star. They all have words. And even if the lyrics of some of these songs aren’t appropriate for kids, we can change the words, can’t we? That’s how Kidz Bop makes their living, anyhow.

I dunno. I didn’t really feel this. I guess for younger kids it’s cool. But I think that having words would make it awesome (and hilarious). I guess I’d give it 2.5 stars out of 5.

Vacation and updates

Woot woot! I’m on vacation for the next week so I probably won’t post much. If I do, my posts are likely not going to be anything close to weight loss or health related. Consider this fair warning. Lol.

A couple updates though:

– At this week’s Biggest Loser weigh in at work I was flat. No weight gained/lost BUT my body fat decreased (according to the scale we use, at least. So I can’t really say how reliable that is);

– I’ve been eating my fair share of crap again but I’m pretty small quantities. Doesn’t make me feel any less guilty about eating the stuff, though;

– Couch to 5K is going to by my workout of choice beginning in February. I just have to decide if I’ll be running in the early mornings or after work. I’ve done C25K in the past and had a great time doing so. I got the greatest sense of accomplishment being able to complete an entire 5K (despite doing so at a ridiculously slow pace).

– I may get my hands on some product samples to review, so don’t be surprised if you see posts like that in the future.

What’s been going on in your lives??? Anything you want me to talk (write) about?
